Minecraft Stack Calculator

Editions: Java + Bedrock (identical) · Verified: Java 26.3 / Bedrock 26.50 · 2026-09-16 · Updated 2026-09-16

Type an item count and get stacks, inventory slots, shulker boxes, and double chests — or type stacks and get items back. Pick the right stack class first: most things stack to 64, throwables stop at 16, and tools refuse to stack at all.

The worked example

Say a build needs 3,000 blocks of stone. At 64 per stack that is 46 full stacks with 56 blocks loose — 47 inventory slots. A shulker box holds 27 slots, so the load is 2 shulker boxes (1,728 blocks each; the second holds the remaining 1,272, about three-quarters full), and it all fits in a single 54-slot double chest, which holds up to 3,456. The calculator rounds containers up because a partial stack still occupies a whole slot; the arithmetic is asserted case by case in our test suite before every deploy.

Questions builders actually ask

Which Minecraft items only stack to 16?

The 16-stack class covers ender pearls, snowballs, eggs, signs, and honey bottles. Most blocks and items stack to 64, and a third class refuses to stack at all: tools, weapons, armor, potions, and filled buckets each take a whole inventory slot.

How many items fit in a shulker box or a double chest?

A shulker box has 27 slots and a double chest has 54. For ordinary 64-stack items that means 1,728 per shulker box and 3,456 per double chest. For the 16-stack class it is 432 and 864, and for unstackable items the slot count is the item count: 27 and 54.

Are stack sizes different between Java and Bedrock?

The facts this tool uses are the same in both editions: the 64, 16, and 1 stack classes, 27-slot shulker boxes, and 54-slot double chests. The version stamp at the top of the page records when we last re-checked them.

Why does one leftover item still cost a whole slot?

Slots hold one stack each, and a partial stack still occupies its slot. The calculator therefore rounds slots, shulker boxes, and chests up: 3,000 blocks is 46 full stacks plus 56 loose, which needs 47 slots and 2 shulker boxes: the first box takes 1,728 and the second holds the remaining 1,272 in 20 of its 27 slots.
