Minecraft XP Calculator
Editions: Java (documented — see FAQ) · Verified: Java 26.3 · 2026-09-16 · Updated 2026-09-16
Levels to points, points to levels, and the price of a climb between any two levels. The experience bar hides a three-segment curve that turns steep at 16 and brutal at 31 — this tool does the piecewise arithmetic so you can decide whether that repair is worth it before you commit the levels.
The anchors
| Level | Total points from zero | Next level costs |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | 0 | 7 |
| 7 | 91 | 21 |
| 16 | 352 | 42 |
| 27 | 1,089 | 97 |
| 30 | 1,395 | 112 |
| 31 | 1,507 | 121 |
| 50 | 5,345 | 292 |
Formulas and anchor totals verified against the Minecraft Wiki's experience documentation and cross-checked against two independent XP calculators, all three named in the XP curve guide names the sources and shows the full piecewise math.
The worked example
Say you die at level 30 planning a big enchant and claw back to 27. The gap from 27 to 30 is 1,395 minus 1,089 — 306 points, less than a quarter of the bar you already climbed once. Now compare the other direction: pushing from 30 up to 50 costs 3,950 points, which is 283% of everything it took to reach 30 in the first place, and the final step from 49 to 50 alone costs 283. The curve is the argument for spending levels at 30: banking higher is the most expensive storage in the game.
Questions builders actually ask
How many XP points is level 30?
1,395 points from zero — the price of a full-power enchanting session. The single step from 30 to 31 costs another 112 points, and each level after that gets steeper.
Why do high levels cost so much more?
The cost of the next level grows in three regimes: 2 x level + 7 points up to level 15, then 5 x level - 38 through level 30, then 9 x level - 158 from 31 up. The slope jumps at levels 16 and 31, which is why the climb from 30 to 50 costs almost three times as much as everything you earned getting to 30.
Does this match Bedrock Edition?
The formulas here are the ones the Minecraft Wiki documents for Java Edition, and this tool declares Java for that reason. The wiki records a different legitimate level cap for Bedrock, so rather than assume the curves match everywhere we state exactly what was verified.
How does the calculator turn points back into a level?
It inverts each quadratic segment and rounds down. The segment boundaries — 352 points at level 16 and 1,507 points at level 31 — work out to exact values, so the branch edges land precisely and the round trip from level to points and back never drifts.
