Minecraft Tick and Day Clock Converter

Editions: Java + Bedrock (identical cycle) · Verified: Java 26.3 / Bedrock 26.50 · 2026-09-16 · Updated 2026-09-16

Ticks to clock time, real minutes to ticks, and where you are in the day — daytime, sunset, night, or sunrise — with the bed window included. The whole system is one clean ratio: 20 ticks a second, 24,000 ticks a day, 06:00 at tick zero.

The worked example

The bed tick is the one worth memorizing. Beds open at tick 12,542, which the conversion reads as 18:32 in-game — 12,542 ÷ 1,000 is 12.542, plus 6 is 18.542 hours, and 0.542 of an hour is 32 minutes. In real time that is 10 minutes 27.1 seconds after the day started, which means a fresh day gives you a touch over ten real minutes of light before the first possible sleep. A full day runs 20 real minutes exactly, an in-game hour passes every 50 real seconds, and 100 real minutes of play is 120,000 ticks — five full days. Each of those numbers is asserted in the test suite.

Questions builders actually ask

How long is a Minecraft day in real time?

Exactly 20 real minutes: 24,000 ticks at 20 ticks per second. That makes game time run 72 times faster than reality, and one in-game hour — 1,000 ticks — pass in 50 real seconds.

What tick is noon, midnight, and sunset?

Noon is tick 6,000, sunset begins at 12,000, full night arrives at 13,000, midnight is 18,000, and sunrise begins at 23,000. The command /time set day jumps to tick 1,000, which is 07:00 on the in-game clock rather than the crack of dawn.

When can I sleep in a bed?

In clear weather on Java, beds accept you from tick 12,542 — 18:32 on the in-game clock, during sunset — until tick 23,460. Rain widens the window at both ends because the sky darkens earlier and brightens later.

How do I turn a tick number into clock time?

Divide the daytime tick by 1,000, add 6, and wrap at 24. Tick 0 is 06:00 in the morning, and every 1,000 ticks is one in-game hour, which is the whole conversion — this tool just does the wrapping and the minutes for you.
